November 4, 2019 – East Carolina University College of Fine Arts & Communications Dean Chris Buddo, School of Music faculty member, Dr. Daniel Shirley (tenor, in photo), the Arts of the Pamlico’s (AOP) Artistic Director Jeffery Phipps and Executive Director, Debra Torrence, presented information about their artistic collaborations and plans to launch summer stock theatre in 2020 to Washington Noon Rotary.

Announced launch of Riverside Lyric Theatre  with The Sound of Music on Stage in July 2020

East Carolina University College of Fine Arts & Communications Dean Chris Buddo, School of Music faculty member, Dr. Daniel Shirley (tenor, in photo), the Arts of the Pamlico’s (AOP) Artistic Director Jeffery Phipps and Executive Director, Debra Torrence, presented information about their artistic collaborations and plans to launch summer stock theatre in 2020.

Torrence shared the history of the community’s arts council & theatre, the vibrant menu or arts and cultural events available to the community at its Historic Turnage Theatre & efforts to seek funding to build more arts programs including the launch of an annual summer of theatre at the Turnage.

Dean Buddo described the College he leads, which is staffed with award-winning faculty serving over 2,000 students.

He shared the long-standing ECU/AOP relationship & theatre collaborations, beginning with Dr. Patricia “Patch” Clark’s, of Washington, ECU Storybook Theatre performances by her Theater for Youth program in ECU’s School of Theatre and Dance. And, Buddo noted the critical importance for ECU students to perform at the Turnage, a high-quality venue with stellar acoustics and a perfect venue for voices to shine.

Shirley shared the joint vision for Riverside Lyric Theatre (AOP/ECU summer stock theatre in Washington) and information about the upcoming ECU opera performance of Hansel & Gretel on the Turnage stage November 22 – 24.

The Club sang along with Shirley as he performed a dreamy rendition of the well-known song Edelweiss, from The Sound of Music, as a little teaser for what’s to come.

The musical will be performed by ECU Opera Theatre in late July 2020 on the Turnage stage, launching annual seasons of summer theatre in Washington, NC in partnership with AOP.
