Art Beat for week of March 30-2020

Written by Debra Torrence, Executive Director

Online Playwriting for Kids is hosted by Erin Staebell, Theatre Coordinator at the Arts of the Pamlico which is based at its Historic Turnage Theatre.  We hope this will be the first in a series of playwriting workshops that provide youth and families with a low cost, connection to the arts in their community..

Each session is divided by age. This week’s theme is Nature and Animals at separate times as shown below.

● Session 1 – 10:00-11:00 AM – Ages 6-10
● Session 2 – 11:30 AM – 12:30 PM – Ages 11-14
● Session 3 – 1:00 – 2:00 PM – Ages 15-18

Each group will work together to create plays over the classes based on adaptations of folktales and/or plays from original stories. Each sessions’ participants will work together to decide the important events in folktales and also brainstorm original ideas. Older participants will dive deeper into the creation of characters, dialogue, and story arcs. Each session will end with a reading of the play. There is also the possibility of an afternoon or evening of staged readings at a later date.

Each session is limited to 5 participants. If there is a significant interest in one age group, more sessions will be added as time permits.

The cost for 5, 1 hour sessions is $15 for those with an AOP Family Membership/$20 for Non Family Membership via PayPal below.
