Public Art Projects

AOP partners with artists and art groups to increase access to the arts and cultural events in Beaufort and Washington counties.

In 2016, AOP created two public art installations in partnership with the City of Washington and local artist Mary Alice Johnston to create a brightly colored school of metal fish and a field of tulips hanging from steel archways in downtown locations.

In 2017,  AOP teamed up with local artists and Sound Rivers and Potash Corp to turn river trash cleanup into art. The exhibit combined works from local artists with UNCW’s Plastic Ocean Art social art exhibit to raise awareness about the importance of our waterways.

In 2018, AOP supported a volunteer in creating a rainbow fence on the back of the theatre. Plans are underway to create an outdoor mural of Pamlico River animals in partnership with the Harbor District art galleries.
