Boundary: The painting boundary encompasses many picturesque scenes including, but not limited to in the beautiful riverside, Historical homes, Grand Mansions, antique car show, NC Estuarium, gorgeous river views, majestic oaks, historical churches, colorful Summer Fest, the Havens Mill, a downtown Marina, the Historic Turnage Theatre, train station, antique caboose and more!
Rules: Fees are Check in and stamping of artist supplied canvases/substrates may begin as early as 1 PM on June 6 (Thursday) at the Arts of the Pamlico at 150 West Main Street, Washington, NC 27889 (252) 946-2504. Pick up your goody bag and head out. We will be roving the boundary area with our Golf Cart Volunteer to check in on the painters throughout the painting period.
Artists may submit up to THREE pieces for judging. All works must be done en plein air (outside), during the event times (nocturnal compositions accepted), within the painting boundaries as confirmed by the map (designated space to be provided at registration), and without assistance of photographs. All canvases/substrates must be officially stamped at registration. Eligible submissions must be turned in by 3:00pm on June 8 (Saturday) at the Arts of the Pamlico. Artists must provide artist name, name of artwork and prices on the back of the canvas at the time of submission. All media are accepted, except for photography. Artists must be present for the wet sale to sell their works of art and are encouraged to participate in the reception and judging process.
Canvas Restrictions: Canvases/Substrates may be no larger than 24” inches in any direction. Each artist may submit up to 3 completed works for judging.
Awards: 1st Place: $300 2nd Place: $200 3rd Place: $100 & a special prize chosen by the Washington -Beaufort County Chamber of Commerce (Chamber): Summer Fest Award (up to $750 if a work is chosen) for the best work that captures Summer Fest splendor. The selected artwork and rights of use for the work will be retained by the Chamber. Awards will be given at 6 PM during the public reception will be on Saturday, June 8 at 5 PM at the Historic Turnage Theatre.
Sales: Completed works may be listed for sale, at the artists’ request, in the wet-paint sale and during the gallery exhibit period. The wet-paint sale will begin immediately after the judging, on Saturday afternoon, June 8, 2019 at 5 PM. Sales generated during the wet-paint sale will be the sole responsibility of the artists, for which 100% commission will be retained by the artist.Works will be displayed in the Lane Gallery in the Arts of the Pamlico’s Historic Turnage Theatre (area arts council) from June 8 through July 6th with pick up on July 7th (unless sold). The Arts of the Pamlico will retain a 30% commission. Half of the commission will be used to support future plein air paint outs hosted by the Washington Harbor District Art Stops. Artists must price their own pieces.
Judging and Critique: Judging will be completed by reception time. Dan Beck is the juror for the 2019 Plein Air on the Pamlico. Dan is a Contemporary Impressionist. Gold Medal recipient of the 2017 Oil Painters of America Eastern Regional Exhibition. In 2016, he received three national awards: Oil Painters
of America National Exhibition, American Impressionist Society National Exhibition and Oil Painters of America Eastern Regional Exhibition.
