Healing Vets Art Workshop:
Opportunities for Expression
@ Arts of the Pamlico’s
Historic Turnage Theatre
Call for Military Veteran Participants only
Arts of the Pamlico & Pamlico Rose Institute for Sustainable Communities (Rose Haven)
is partnering to offer a Military Veteran Art Program for Eastern North Carolina.
The Healing Vets Art Workshop is part of that Program.
The Healing Vets Art Workshop: Opportunities for Expression is open to all Veterans throughout
North Carolina and sponsored by Veterans Services Foundation.
The Workshop will be a chance for Veterans to work with local Washington, NC artists William Aley and
MaryAlice Johnston to create Garden Art Sculptures. These art sculptures will be permanently displayed in
the emerging Healing and Artful Gardens at Rose Haven Center of Healing
at 219 East 3rd Street, Washington, NC 27889.
The workshop will utilize the faces of the participating Veterans to create
a living memorial. The Veterans will work with the artists to create
life casts of their faces in plaster, and then create clay faces from
the plaster molds.
The Veterans will also create individual wall panels for the faces to be mounted for display.
The artists will fire the completed masks to 2000 degrees Fahrenheit, converting them into ceramic sculptures.
Each mounted ceramic face will be incorporated into an outdoor living
memorial art display and larger Garden Art Wall within the
Healing and Artful Gardens.
