VET Talks – IBX

May 3 @ 7:15 pm - 9:00 pm EDT

VET Talks – IBX are part of the 2nd Annual Healing Vets Weekend

May 3rd and 4th, 2019.

VET Talks – IBX will begin at 7:15 p.m. at the Turnage Theatre on May 3rd.

The TED Talk-like presentations sponsored by Pamlico Rose and hosted by

Arts of the Pamlico will feature two distinguished and accomplished speakers.

US Navy Captain Kimberly Elenberg, DNP, and Dr. Rachel Breslin, former US Army Lieutenant Colonel,
will talk about the importance of resilience in helping Veterans transition from the military to civilian
life, and reintegrate into their communities. They will draw on their own considerable military service,
deployments, and academic experience to provide a compelling picture of the effect of service on
transitioning Veterans. Each will highlight the importance of wellness and resilience on easing the
impact of trauma on Veterans’ lives. Pamlico Rose CEO Robert Greene Sands, PhD will introduce the
evening’s topic and speakers.

The Healing Vets Weekend features two days of events that promote awareness of Veteran issues,
while offering opportunities for Veterans and the larger community to take part in activities to support
Veterans and their causes. The Weekend’s events start with the Military Veteran Art Exhibit opening at
the historic Turnage Theatre on Friday, May 3 at 5:30 pm, immediately followed by the VET Talks –
IBX. Saturday offers a full slate of activities, all at Washington’s waterfront Festival Park, starting with
sunrise yoga at 7 am. The Ride for Rose Haven: Supporting Women Veterans pedals away at 8 am,
featuring 30, 60- and 100-mile bicycle rides that start and end at Festival Park. Registration is
available at At 10 am, the Veteran Outreach Fair opens up to all Veterans,
families, and friends, offering an array of vendors, Veteran Service Organizations, and agencies that
can provide services to Veterans. A cookout will provide free lunches to Veterans and returning bike
riders, as well as other participants (a donation is gratefully accepted) starting at 11 am. To close out
the Healing Vets Weekend, a benefit concert starts at 12 Noon.
