Cancelled – Dance Camp

Dear Families – This camp has been cancelled due to a positive COVID test of a Broadway Kid camper reported to us on Thursday evening, August 12. The scheduled gathering of campers on Friday, August 13, 2021 will not be able to be offered. Both performances scheduled for August 14 are being postponed. As campers participated in multiple camps this week and camp Instructors were staffing camps with youth from the Broadway Kids Camp and other camps held this week, we are immediately taking steps to limit the potential for spread immediately. Dance camp will focus on age-based development. In each group, students will learn about dance history and styles/genres of dance. Student will also learn an upbeat piece of choreography and have the opportunity to contribute their own ideas to design the dance. Afterwards, each of the groups will come together and perform for one another in a mini performance. The students will then make props and incorporate them into the choreography and learn about staging, blocking, and tempo. At the end of the day, there will be a mini performance for parents and friends.
Instructor: Heather Summers is a graduate of East Carolina University with a BFA in Ceramics and Art Education 2016. She has worked Summer camps throughout NC for years and absolutely loves every second of them. She grew up at the beach and loves the outdoors, fishing and kayaking.
Heather is a brand-new Mama and will be introducing her new baby boy, Jakob, to many AOP participants this year. She loves every type of art imaginable, but definitely has an extra passion for pottery/clay. She lives with Jakob and her husband, Logan, in Washington, just a short way from our theater. She has been the art teacher at Chocowinity Middle School for the last 5 years and cannot wait to share her love of teaching and love of the arts here with us!
- $85 Family Members per child, per 1-week camp

- $10 per child, per day gap time to stay for the day and attend two camps in the same week, arrive early/stay later.
- Multi-child discounts are not available in 2021.
All camps take part at the Arts of the Pamlico’s Historic Turnage Theatre in downtown Washington. Camps are designed for youth ages 6 into the early teens. Broadway Teens Camp ages are 13-18.
Teens are also welcome to contact us about volunteering as well to build their experience through supervised, unpaid internships.
Youth campers may participate in week-long camps in the morning or afternoon or both.
If campers want/need a full day, they may participate in the morning and afternoon camps and stay thru the gap time (12:30 – 1:30 PM) bringing their own lunch.
Camps will serve 10 youth unless they are theatre camps which will serve up to 15 youth each. Broadway Camps serve up to 25.
Art and youth instructors staff the camps. Instructors are college graduates in theatre and art graduates and/or are local art teachers.
