Weeks of July 6 & 13, 2025

TThis summer, Arts of the Pamlico is offering a series of free youth art camps thanks to support from donations, Washington Noon Rotary, and grant funding. The 2025 summer camp season wraps up with youth performing Disney’s Newsies Jr. on stage, August 1 at 7 p.m. & August 2 at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m.

Disney’s Newsies Jr. is based on the New York City newsboys’ strike of 1899 and is known for its energetic dance numbers, touching story, and charismatic characters. Directed by Savannah Wolf (Chocowinity Middle Theatre Teacher), youth actors will participate in a three-week performing arts camp – auditioning, rehearsing choreography and music, memorizing lines, and blocking for the show. The set will be designed by Stage Craft campers, led by Ms. Tabitha Ferrell, Set Designer. Campers will construct/paint large backdrops, set pieces, and props for the show. The combination of the history, vibrant music, fabulous actors, and tech makes for a show you don’t want to miss!

Check out the Newsies, Jr. window art by youth campers at the Turnage and plan to view our community’s budding artists exhibit during the Newsies Jr. performances. Included in the exhibit is a 7-piece storyboard mural based on youth campers’ depictions of Hispanic history, culture, and art in Washington, NC. Campers in the My Community in Vivid Color camp directed by Katelyn Kozuch (P.S. Jones Middles School Digital Art Teacher) collaborated to create the vibrant traveling mural. The exhibit will visit schools, be on display at the Theatre during Hispanic Heritage Month, and more. This mural camp was funded in partnership with the Washington Waterfront Underground Railroad Museum and Leesa Jones with support from the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Foundation of NC’s Building Integrated Communities Initiative and funds from Anonymous Trust.

For show tickets ($10 each), purchase at the theatre on Saturdays between 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. , at the show, or online at artsofthepamlico.org. Note AOP is closed weekdays during camp season. For camp information, please visit partner Beaufort County Community College. Watch for winter and spring camp coming soon!

We can’t wait to see you at the theatre!
