Arts of the Pamlico (AOP) summer activities are sizzling with excitement. Get ready to "Move It, Move It!" with the most talented young performers in the Pamlico region! Arts of the Pamlico’s Youth Camp campers have been working incredibly hard to bring the hilarious, high-energy world of Central Park and the jungles of Madagascar straight to the historic Turnage Theatre stage. Based on the smash-hit DreamWorks animated motion picture, Madagascar – A Musical Adventure Jr. follows your favorite zoo celebrities—Alex the Lion, Marty the Zebra, Melman the Giraffe, and Gloria the Hippo—as they escape from their home at New York’s Central Park Zoo and find themselves on an unexpected, wild journey to the eccentric world of King Julien’s Madagascar. Filled with outlandish characters, non-stop adventure, and an infectious pop score, this production is a magnificent showcase of local youth talent, teamwork, and creativity. It’s the ultimate summer theater experience for audiences of all ages. Come out, support our amazing campers, and join the party! Showtimes are Friday July 31 at 7 PM and August 1 at 2 and 7 PM. Music Camp with Nash Recording Studio on August 3, 4 & 5 and Mural Camp with Grace Bowers and Debra Torrence wraps up the summer camps for 2026. Youth programs are provided to Beaufort County kids at no cost and are supported by donations and grants. Consider supporting art programs for our community’s youth with a donation today which will match a challenge grant just awarded by Anonymous Trust! On Wednesday, July 29, Disney Karaoke will fill the air in the Gallery beginning at 6 PM. Suggested donation $5/person. Concessions will be open.
AOP’s Learning Collective’s August 2026 series kicks off on August 5 at 1:30 PM with a workshop on restoring old photographs using AI and Photoshop. On August 12 at 10:30 AM join in a discussion about Great Books: Persuasion by Jane Austen. Linda Boyer performs and shares interesting tidbits about traditional songs of Eastern North Carolina at 3:30 PM. On August 26 at 10:30 am step back in time and view the Holocaust through the eyes of a survivor. Buy your pass at www.artsofthepamlico.org, discounted for Members.
Mark your August calendars for Art Walk on Friday, August 14 at 5:30 PM. View and shop the art of Denise Parry and Kelly Manness which will fill the Gallery for the month of August. Join in the public art reception starting at 5:30 PM with acoustic guitar music provided by Jeff Boeing. Wander out the side doors and join us in AOP’s new public art garden – Living Canvas next to Stubborn Mule – with piano music by Makayla Gilbertson and a free fingerpainting activity for all ages with Carol McDearmon.

Join in! USA Dance returns from summer break on August 15 at 7 PM for dancing in the Gallery. Each week in the Gallery Tuesday Painters meet at 9:30 AM on Tuesdays, all levels welcome. And on Thursday eves and Saturday mornings find and join in free jams AOP’s Beaufort County Traditional Music Association.
