September Program – Black Holes: The Life Cycle of a Star

Discover one of the most fascinating mysteries of the universe during September’s Beyond the Blue: Adventures in Astronomy, part of the Turnage Family Series!

On Tuesday, September 8, from 1:30–3:30 PM, kids and families are invited to explore the life cycle of a star—from its brilliant beginnings to what can happen at the very end—through an immersive mobile planetarium experience, followed by a hands-on exploration activity.

This month’s theme, “Black Holes: The Life Cycle of a Star,” introduces participants to how stars are born, how they change over time, and how some massive stars end their lives as black holes. Through engaging visuals and guided discussion, young explorers will learn how gravity, mass, and energy shape the universe in powerful and surprising ways. After the planetarium show, participants will take part in an interactive science activity designed to reinforce these concepts in a kid-friendly, hands-on way.

Designed to spark curiosity and big questions, this program is engaging for kids while remaining enjoyable for parents and caregivers.

Beyond the Blue is a year-long planetarium series at the Turnage Theatre, featuring free, family-friendly programs that combine immersive planetarium shows with hands-on science activities.
