Annual Fine Arts Show Opens Soon at the Historic Turnage Theatre

The 61st Alice Hubbard Stallings Fine Arts Show opens on November 14 at 6 PM showcasing juried art from across North Carolina, selected for the 3-month exhibit and sale. The show is named after Alice Hubbard Stallings who loved and lived art. Alice once shared that “Art is so integrated in me that I would suffocate without it.”

Submissions will be accepted one day only, Sunday, November 9 from 11 AM – 6 PM, at the Arts of the Pamlico’s Historic Turnage Theatre at 150 W. Main Street in Washington, NC. Pre-sale tickets are available to view and shop the show on November 14 from 5 – 5:45 PM before the show opens to the public at 6:30 PM, following the awards ceremony. Visit https://www.artsofthepamlico.org/61st-annual-fine-arts-show to learn more.

Artwork will be judged by Fine Art Oil Painter Lynn Mehta. Mehta is an award-winning Virginia-based oil painter celebrated for her fluid, expressive style and ability to blend spontaneity with control. A lifelong artist who grew up along the Pacific Ocean in California, she draws inspiration from the changing light, movement, and abstract forms found in landscapes, figures, and everyday life. Mehta earned her B.A. in Art from San Diego State University and has studied with renowned artists both in the U.S. and abroad. Her work is featured in galleries, private and public collections, and publications worldwide, including the Maryhill Museum of Art in Washington, the National Institutes of Health, and Acadia National Park’s Artist-in-Residence program.

Awards to be given this year to winning artists in 15 categories will top $6,500 in cash prizes thanks to generous donations from the Stallings Family, including the People’s Choice Award – which is a tally of one vote cast per visitor to the show. Alice and John Stallings children, Cindy, Donnie, John, Mary Ruth and Emma shared“Growing up with Alice Stallings as our mother gave the 5 Stallings kids a unique perspective on art. We learned from an early age how important art is. Knowing our mother's love of art has inspired us to support this art show that she helped found and participated in. We want to support arts in the community that supported Mom throughout her life. John, Alice’s middle child, said that growing up he always thought Mom was the best artist around. Over time he discovered that she is one of many very good artists from the area. This Fine Arts Show proves this to be true.”

Plan to stop by and view and shop the 61st Alice Hubbard Stallings Fine Arts Show at the Historic Turnage Theatre and add your vote for this award. And mark your calendars for a month of holiday events in December – from the annual holiday homecoming tour, to film events and concerts on stage. Be part of the arts -- attend an event, teach at the Turnage, be a volunteer, sponsor an event, join/renew as a member, and more!
