Weeks of October 12 & 19, 2025
The Arts of the Pamlico’s (AOP) BoCo Town Podcast is returning after a brief hiatus. A new episode will berecorded on stage on October 28, 2025 and will be posted on a variety of platforms for easy access. The podcasts are recorded on the Historic Turnage Theatre stage and will be produced monthly. They will be posted on a wide range of popular podcast platforms including Spotify, Apple & Google Podcasts and YouTube.
The AOP podcast, which began in 2020, features interviews with local artists, musicians and others involved in arts and culture. Leesa Jones and Steve Barnes will return as co-hosts and Roland Wyman will return as the producer and as a podcast sponsor, leveraging a small grant from the Blue Cross Blue Shield Foundation of NC’s Building Integrated Communities project in partnership with the Washington Waterfront Underground Railroad Museum.
“Podcasts are an effective strategy for nonprofits because they help build authentic connections with audiences, are a cost-effective way to produce long-form content, and serve as a versatile tool for storytelling and marketing,” says Debra Torrence, AOP’s Director. “By providing a more intimate and personal experience than traditional media, they can inspire listeners to become dedicated supporters.” The podcasts will be supported through donations and sponsorships, leveraging the grant received.
The new episode to be recorded on October 28th will feature an interview with local documentary and television producer Clay Johnson. Johnson has just produced a new documentary called “Wingman” about Francis Rogallo. Rogallo invented the flexible wing which led to the development of aerial sports like hang gliding, paragliding and kite boarding. Wingman is now streaming on PBS NC and premiered in the Norfolk, VA market on the Hampson Roads PBS affiliate WHRO earlier this month. Johnson also produces segments for PBS NC’s popular North Carolina Weekend show and has produced many segments for this show in Beaufort County over the years.
Art podcasts can introduce you to new artists, techniques, and historical movements, acting as a "stew pot" of diverse influences for your own creativity. At AOP, you can go from podcasts to jams to visual arts by
listening to and engaging with activities at the Turnage. On October 25th AOP Affiliate, Pamlico River Pottery Guild will host Pottery Fest in the Gallery. In November, the 61st Alice Hubbard Stallings Fine Ats Show opens on the 14th showcasing juried art judged by Fine Art Oil Painter Lynn Mehta.
