Spring has sprung, and AOP is springing new activities and adding to existing ones at the Turnage!

This week AOP completes a two-week series of free art in the garden for youth backstage in partnership with Americorps PRI Wellness Corps project. Watch for more colorful camp photos on AOP’s Facebook & Instagram pages.

This weekend kicks off a set of four 2026 Art Walks begin in downtown Washington on Friday, April 10 at 5:30 – 7:30 PM. Musician Jeff Boenig will be playing guitar during Art Walk. On the same evening, the opening of the Unnatural Resources Institute’s creations followed by Second Verse’s workshop – Painting the Picture, $10/person. A free all day event takes place at the Turnage this Saturday, April 11. AOP’s first Cowboy Ramble, Run & Rhythm is supported by Onslow Stoneworks, the City of Washington, Beaufort County and Washington Tourism Development Authority. The free all-day event begins with traditional music in the Gallery from 10 am – 12 Noon, art activities  & movies follow from 1 – 3 PM, a fee-based RuntheEast 5K ramble or run at 5 PM and two free music concerts. Listen to the Pamlico Sound band in the Gallery at 5 PM, followed by NC’s own Nashville rising star, Michael Schott who will take the stage with his band at 6:30 PM. Concessions will be open. AOP’s new Learning Collective begins on April 15 led by AOP Board member Amanda Monath. The first series, Art, Mystery and Romance: The Sabine Trilogy with Dr. Philip Niban, begins on April 15 with each 3-part series meeting held from 1:30 – 2:30 PM at the Turnage. AOP’s 2026 Summer Youth Art Camp registration is now open via Beaufort County Community College. Camps will be offered at no charge for Beaufort County families and youth from mid-June through mid-August. Fees for non-residents or out of town youth visiting are $125 per child for one ½ day art camp for one week. Camps include performing arts, stage craft, visual arts and more! Camp registration fills up fast so register today. Donations are being accepted and greatly appreciated to be able to offer the series of summer camps at no charge to families in Beaufort County. On Saturday, May 9 the 2nd annual Champagne & Starlight event takes place at Lake Jehu off Whootentown Road. A wonderful outdoor evening awaits as we dress in white from head to toe and sip curated champagnes to usher in spring and the new season of AOP arts under the tents at the home of Gayle Watson & wine sommelier, Paul Hagar.
