Weeks of April 20 &27, 2026

Growing the arts and the artists who offer programs for our community is what AOP is all about. Join in the fun, become a member, a singer, a painter, a writer, a dancer – it’s all here for you to try!

In the Gallery this month, come sing away during County Karaoke on Wednesday, April 23, at 6 PM. Listen in to BCTMA jams on Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings. And mark your calendar for more shows by Quincy Jones & Friends coming in May and June at the Turnage Gallery.

On April 28, AOP”s Second Verse hosts a poetry slam workshop and on May 8 a poetry slam about mental health in the Gallery. Also in April, AOP’s Learning Collective continues with The Sabine Trilogy, Great Songs from the Inside Out. In May, the group is offering The Odyssey and Family Forensics. Join Pamlico Writers Group for Tuesday evening sessions to grow your writing skills.

On stage, join the audience as AOP hosts two plays and a free community concert over the next few weeks. Chocowinity Middle School’s High School Musical is on stage on Thursday, April 23. Doors open at 5 PM. On Sunday, April 26, Beaufort County Choral Society will offer a free concert for the public at 3 PM. And, Not Quite Shakespeare’s production of Charlie & the Chocolate Factory will offer a matinee and an evening show on Saturday, May 2.

Offsite, you can be part of AOP Arts too. AOP supported our community’s littlest artists during Paint the Town Blue at Festival Park with a flower-painting station (see photo). On Saturday, May 9, the 2nd annual Champagne & Starlight event takes place at Lake Jehu, off Whootentown Road. Grow your understanding of champagne, enjoy tapas by chef Chris Womack while being serenaded by the music of Mark Woodland at the home of

Gayle Watson & wine sommelier, Paul Hagar. This event is from 7 – 10 PM. Advance tickets required. Purchase at https://www.artsofthepamlico.org/events/2nd-annual-champagne-starlight.

Get ready for summer! Sponsor or sign up your child for an AOP Youth Art Camp. Donations of $150/child for a camp, camp supplies, volunteer time, and more help AOP offer a free summer full of art for Beaufort County youth in grades 3 and up from mid-June through mid-August. Camps include performing arts, stage craft, visual arts, and more! Camp registration fills up fast, so register today through BCCC Continuing Education. Any dollars raised will support a challenge grant for youth program funding. Contact debra@artsofthepamlico.org for details.

A rich menu of arts & cultural programs is available all because of members, sponsors, local support, ticket sales, and so many community members and leaders who took the reins and led the team. It takes a village to keep the arts and the theatre humming. Look for information in upcoming Artbeat articles that share our past, which may be new to you, and what’s in store for the future of your community arts council and theatre.

Be part of the arts—become a member today, attend an event, make a donation, volunteer, and more! Check AOP’s online calendar, visit artsofthepamlico.org, find us on Facebook and Instagram, or grab a calendar inside or outside at the theatre for dates for free art and networking events.
