Weeks of May 24 & May 31, 2026
Outside April showers were slim to none but thanks to rain over the past couple of weeks the May flowers are in full bloom in AOP’s outdoor art garden. Dubbed the Living Canvas Public Art Garden by Americorps community art garden partner, Pamlico Rose Institute’s Rob Sands, the new space is chocked full of art and beautiful plants put together by Master Gardener and Artist, Lisa Hodges. The art garden has been a yearlong collaborative project which will open to the public on Friday, June 12 at 5:30 PM with fingerpainting, music and more. Join us for the opening where you will be able to view Washington Montessori Public Charter School’s murals on full display under Maryalice Johnston’s colorful metal fish. Look up and you will see the work of David Edwards. Edwards is an Artist, Musician and AOP Board member. His driftwood whale will soon shimmer under the alley lights installed by AOP’s Paul Harding and Anthoney Wooden with framing by AOP Board member, Williams Figueroa. Take in the many Tuesday Painters’ art square contributions that form a quilt of color on the garden walls as you walk along the walkway. And view the colorful Main Stage door created by youth spring art campers under the guidance of AOP’s Programming & Outreach Coordinator, Grace Bowers. Support the art garden and leave a legacy with an engraved brick in the walkway. A limited supply are available at $100 each, engraved with your message. Visit https://www.artsofthepamlico.org/shop.
On exhibit at the Turnage in June will be the work of two artists – Dion Burroughs and Kendrick Holiday. View and shop Dion’s colorful works and peer into the eyes of Kendrick’s subjects who come to life on the canvas. View demos by Kendrick on Friday, June 12 in the Gallery from 5:30 – 7 PM. Both exhibits are supported by AOP’s Grassroots grant funding from the North Carolina Arts Council.
In the Gallery all month long, join the Tuesday Painters gather to create at 9:30 AM, all levels welcome. Take part in Pamlico Writers Group which meets every other Tuesday and listen in or join the BCTMA jams every Thursday eve and Saturday morning. On June 5, "A Peaceful Rest" premieres, admission is free, donations appreciated to benefit Alternative Stage.
