Weeks of June 8 & 15, 2026

Join us for opening of AOP’s Art Garden and Art Walk in downtown Washington on June 12 from 5:30 PM – 7:30 PM. It will be an evening of artful happenings throughout downtown. In the Gallery at the Arts of the Pamlico’s Historic Turnage Theatre (AOP) that evening, you can shop and view local art, finger paint in the garden, listen to music and take in a play on stage at the Turnage. Artist Kendrick Holiday will be providing a demonstration of his painting techniques in the Gallery while musician Jeff Boening plays acoustic guitar. On exhibit in the Gallery this month is the work of two artists –Kendrick and Dion Burroughs. Plan to view and shop Dion’s colorful works and peer into the eyes of Kendrick’s subjects who come to life on the canvas in June. Both the exhibits and demonstrations are supported by AOP’s Grassroots grant funding from the North Carolina Arts Council.

Outside celebrate the opening of AOP’s Living Canvas Public Art Garden with finger painting for adults and piano music provided by graduating high school senior and musician, Makayla Gilbertson. The open-air garden is a collaborative project designed to beautify and provide access to the arts outside. The garden was designed by Artist and Master Gardener, Lisa Hodges of Washington and AOP’s Debra Torrence. The installation was supported by AOP’s Paul Harding and Anthoney Wooden and Board members, Williams Figueroa, David Edwards and Isaac Halsey. Garden funding partners include Pamlico Rose Institute AmeriCorps’ Wellness Corps Project, Anonymous Trust and wonderful donors – thank you! Art partners that have seeded the garden continue to grow...including AOP’s Tuesday Painters members, David Edwards, Washington Montessori Public Charter School youth and art instructor, Meredith Loughlin, Virginia Finnerty, AOP Spring Break Art Campers and the watering brigade and Stubborn Mule’s staff and owners Joan & Roger Meyland.
